Defining Words That Define my Profession

It is amazing how one can use words so frequently in the context in which they work, but when tasked to provide a clear and concise definition of said words, one is left speechless.
As an educator, I often toss around  words such as  teaching, learning, creativity and innovation, but when I was asked to stop and reflect on what these words really mean to me in the context of my profession, it was challenging to articulate a clear definition.

I decided to toss each definition into woordle to see what came out. It is clear that knowledge, behaviour, dynamic  and creative are common descriptors I use for each of my working definitions!

Who I am as a Teacher & Learner

Hello,

My name is Emily Carroll and I was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. I hold a Bachelor of Science with an Honors in Human Kinetics and a Bachelor of Education with a focus in Biology and Health & Physical Education. I completed all  of my schooling in Ottawa, and it wasn’t until I graduated from my undergrad that I went on my first international adventure. Since graduation I have lived in Dubai and currently work at an international school in Malaysia. I have worked at this school for the past 5.5 years and in that time I have taught Science, Health  & Physical Education, Civics & Careers, Biology and Student Success for Grades 7 - 11. More recently, I have assumed the role of High School Facilitator for the Grades 9-11 program and have also obtained my IB-DP Biology CAT 1 certificate.  

My experience and love of living abroad is what led to my interest in pursuing further education in the area of "teaching abroad". I am passionate about teaching, as well as, learning about and exploring new cultures and countries. I am always interested in learning new things and building on prior knowledge to find new and innovative ways to engage in teaching and learning communities.

I am looking forward to exploring innovative approaches to teaching and learning with anyone and everyone that is interested!
